Hi. I’m Amanda Rhomberg, and this is the story of One Mission.
The summer of 2012 was life changing for my husband, John, and me. Although we didn’t realize it at the time, looking back at how things unfolded, we clearly see the hand of God guiding us to where we are today – and we are grateful.
Prior to that summer, we were living a simple, comfortable life in a small, mid-western town. John owned and operated a business while I stayed at home with our four children. Then John set off on a mission trip to Haiti — and it opened his eyes to the bigger picture. Through him, my eyes were opened, too.
This experience catapulted us to where we are now, which is right smack dab in the middle of adopting two Haitian boys and launching One Mission. Adoption was something we had never even considered for ourselves. However, all it took was one conversation, and we agreed — it just felt right to have these boys join our family.
Little did we know that Haiti was in the process of changing their adoption laws at that time and the country had stopped accepting dossiers (adoption paperwork). People with way more experience than us gave a long list of reasons why this adoption was going to be next to impossible. Even though every phone call I made left me feeling discouraged, I continued to work on our dossier. Call it Mother’s Instinct…or something else. I believe God puts a fire in our hearts when He is really trying to get our attention to act. We felt this and it compelled us to keep moving forward.
In the Spring of 2013, a small window opened and we leaped. Within two short months, John and I were flying to Haiti, handing over our 20 pound (small exaggeration?) pile of paperwork, and I met our boys for the first time. God had cleared a path for us to welcome our new sons to our family.
It was this trip, surrounded by missionaries and other adoptive families, that inspired an idea that morphed into One Mission. John was so inspired, in fact, that he decided to sell his other business in order to work on One Mission full time.
Fast forward 10 months — together we are launching One Mission, a company fueled by our gratitude to God and our passion to help Haiti and support others in doing good in this world. We feel that if we can help others raise money to do good, it will snowball into a lot of people doing SO. MUCH. GOOD.
Through this process, we have fallen in love with the tiny little island and the people of Haiti and we will forever stay connected. Did you know that Haiti is the poorest country in the world? We can’t ignore that. And while we certainly don’t have all of the answers, we firmly believe that Haitians will be the ones to elevate Haiti out of poverty. So what can we do? At a corporate level, we can invest in Haiti and help create jobs, something so many Haitians are desperately seeking. With every One Mission purchase, you are joining us in our efforts to help Haiti — and we really can’t thank you enough.
Whatever your desire to do good in the world, you likely will find a kindred mission to support here at One Mission. To learn more about how this works, feel free to explore our website. And please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
To doing so much good together –
Amanda & John Rhomberg & family
