P.E.O. Alabama is the state chapter of P.E.O. International, founded over 150 years ago at Iowa Weslyan University. The goal of the organization is for women to help other women achieve their educational goals. P.E.O. has six philanthropies: the Educational Loan Fund, the International Peace Scholarship, the Program for Continuing Education, the P.E.O. Scholar Award, the STAR Scholarship, and Cottey College, a four-year college for women in Nevada, MO, owned by P.E.O. Each of the philanthropies or projects targets a specific population of educational needs, so any woman who wants to further her education can find some type of assistance from P.E.O. The organization also promotes love and acceptance among the women of each state and local chapter. P.E.O. is women helping women reach for the stars!
