On March 29, 2023 Ben was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called Olfactory Neuroblastoma. It is a Level 3 tumor that started in his nasal cavity and has moved to the frontal lobe of his brain. Ben and his wife, Jill, have 3 children; Claire (16), Brynn (14), and Abe (9).
Stay up to date and follow this cause to success!
Yesterday, May 1st, Ben received a PET scan which indicated he had blood clots in his lungs. He has been admitted to the hospital and will receive blood thinners and additional testing. The scan also showed signs of cancer in his neck. This was a targeted area no matter what as they knew that was where it would go next. We know they want to get started as soon as possible on treatments, but also know these roadblocks might slow them down.
{The Radiologist is recommending 6 weeks of radiation, 5 days a week. It will target the areas that the tumor touched in the brain and nose as well as margins, as well as his neck. He does not have any signs it has traveled to his neck, but as a preventative measure because that is the next place it travels. Ben will also get a chemo regimen which will last 12 weeks and will aim to overlap radiation. He will receive chemo day 1, 2, 3, of a 3 week cycle. Which means every 3 weeks for 4 times he will get chemo the first 3 days of that cycle.}
{Ben will go in for brain surgery on April 6th to remove as much of the tumor as possible. At the same time, an endoscopic resection of the tumor will be done by his ENT doc. Depending on how much of the tumor is left after surgery, radiation may be the next step.}
