Story
Guatemala is the most populated country in Central America with approximately 75% of its 13 million residents living below the poverty line. We will partner with a local pastor to construc a home from start to finish for a family in need.
San Raymundo is a rural, mountainous town just beyond Guatemala City. Due to the lack of resources, women and children often suffer the most. Children are often malnourished and forced to work to help provide for the family unit. Rather than attend school, many children spend their days rolling wicks for fireworks, earning on average $10/week. This feeds the cycle of illiteracy and poverty. WIth adequate housing provided, families are relieved of one of their greatest financial burdens, and a break in this vicious cycle is made.
Through the Casas Por Cristo missionary, we will be traveling with a group of 15-20 people. It will take approximately 3 days to pour the foundation (mixed by hand), stand the walls, wire the house for electricity, and finish the roof of this three-room house with a large front porch. When complete, this home will stand as a testament to God's unfailing love for His children and hope for future generations.
