Story

Get to know the Fostering Futures program:

Fostering Futures is an umbrella of services supporting some of our community’s most vulnerable youth and young adults. Within Fostering Future, we have the Iowa Aftercare program, Achieving Maximum Potential (AMP), Fostering Higher Education, and the Violence Prevention Program.

The Iowa Aftercare program is offered to young adults who have aged out of the Iowa foster care system. The team shared that one of the most rewarding parts of the program is watching their clients grow while assisting them to reach their goals and accomplishments. Their clients trust the staff immensely and have overcome many challenges to achieve things they never thought possible.

One client recently shared, “I really appreciate my advocate checking in on me and seeing how I am doing. I don't really have anyone who does that in my life."

Renae Koth, Fostering Futures Program Manager, shared a recent success story. “A new client established goals with her Advocate and has worked hard to achieve them. She obtained her driver's license, has maintained full-time employment, and recently saved up enough funds to move into her own apartment! She was excited to receive the Apartment in a Suitcase from our partners at Junior League of Cedar Rapids and she is receiving affordable housing through CR Brickstone and HATCH Development. She shared how excited and proud she is of herself. Her Advocate stated how her reaction to obtaining her own housing brought her to tears as her client was so grateful and proud of the hard work she had done to accomplish this goal.”

Renae also shared, “The team of advocates in the aftercare program are exceptional. They are client-focused, honest, and compassionate team members who endlessly advocate for their clients. They connect and interact with their clients and role-model the way. They are quick to build rapport and connections and teach their clients to live more independently while offering consistent support.”
