Baldwin Family Travel Fund
Start: Jun 13, 2019 - End: Dec 31, 2019
As you all know, our friend Sheila Baldwin was recently diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. The outpouring of love and support for Sheila, Brad and their girls has been incredible. I know we are all inspired by Sheila’s authenticity in the face of her illness, as well as the way she has been so open about sharing her journey with all of us. It’s not always easy to let people help, but as a wise friend told her: “If you don’t accept help, you’re telling people that they can’t ask for help if they ever need it.” And we are all a tribe that rally around each other and want to help feel like we are making even a small difference in her fight. Brad and Sheila would be one of the first to step up to help any of us in need: this is our turn to support them. As Sheila noted in one of her first CaringBridge entries, they are going to maximize the years they have together, and start an ambitious travel schedule to take “15 years of trips in five years.” And here is where we can all help. Typically we all plan a big trip, save for it, enjoy the vacation and then start the process over again for the next trip some number of years in the future. With their expedited timing, they will be traveling a lot in a short amount of time, so we thought a great way to support and shower them with love would be to create a Baldwin Family Travel Fund. Not surprisingly, Sheila and Brad were hesitant to allow this, but ultimately agreed in light of how this can impact Sasha and Kira. I told them I think people will appreciate being able to contribute in a tangible way and be able to follow the Baldwin’s in their travels, making family memories that their support is making possible. I’ve worked with their good friend Amanda Rhomberg, who along with her husband, John, runs One Mission, a fundraising platform. There are 3 easy ways you support Sheila and her family: 1) You can donate cash (One Mission doesn’t charge a platform fee); 2) You can purchase any of their great products and 40% of what you spend will be donated to their fund; and 3) You can share their fund with friends and family. They are all so excited to be able to take their planned European trip this August, and have a bucket list of other trips they want to share. The gift of time together and family experiences is one that I know will mean so much to them. Thanks for your consideration, and for all of the prayers and messages in support of Sheila.
