Bringing Sery Home

Start: Jan 14, 2019 - End: Dec 31, 2019

In February 2011, I decided to host an orphan from Ukraine. Based on a happy but crooked smile (with some missing front teeth) and a short biography, I chose a little almost 8 year old boy named “Serhiy.” A few months later, he walked out of customs in the Atlanta airport and took my hand.  In that moment I became “mama” and my priorities and perspective on life were changed forever. I found out later that summer that Seryozha was not available for adoption, and likely never would be. Devastated is putting it lightly. I swore up and down and prayed to God…saying “It doesn’t matter if he is 8 or 16….this is my child and I will do my best to bring him home forever.” Our adoption story continued and I brought home two brothers (Ethan and Andrew) and I had a biological daughter (Zoe) one month after that. In the meantime, Seryozha was brought home to America and hosted in our family every summer and winter. In the fall of 2013, he was taken from the orphanage by his bio mom and I lost all contact with him. I worried over him every day and searched online for any word of him. In the winter of 2015 I hired a private investigator in Ukraine. Miraculously he found Seryozha, back in an orphanage and had been for over a year. My daughter and I traveled to Ukraine in February of 2016 and we were reunited. I can’t even describe the joy in that reunion. We brought him back for hosting that summer and began working with our facilitator in Ukraine to see if adoption would ever be possible for him. In the winter of 2017, after tireless work from my facilitators in Ukraine, he was finally registered for adoption so that he will be available in the spring of 2019. So NOW it is FINALLY time to start fundraising for his adoption. He is now 15 years old and we are racing the clock to bring him home before he is 16 years old, and too old to adopt by America’s laws. I did not know that my vow to adopt him no matter what age would come to fruition…but I should have known that God has a funny sense of humor.

The first step is the agency fee and the home study. This will cost $300 for the agency application fee and $2000 for 1/2 the agency fee. $500 for the Hague oversite fee and $1450 for the home study fee. We are working with Hope International for our adoption.

Any and all support is appreciated and needed for this leap of faith. Prayers, funding, and fundraising ideas. Thank you!

Fundraising Needs

We said goodbye for now again today, as Seryozha left to go back to his orphanage again. I realized that 1/2 the agency fee is due before they will even start the homestudy. So we need $300 application fee, $2000 agency fee, $500 Hague oversite fee, $1450 homestudy fee, $860 i600a filing fee. (This is the important one!)

Through God’s grace and timing, we have $3000 that my mom and stepdad had put back for this adoption 2 years ago. $183 raised online so far. So about $1900 that needs to be raised rather quickly! All prayers are appreciated!
