Collin's Crew: Helping Find a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes
Just over a year ago, Collin was a normal, healthy 6-year-old first grader. He had recently started wetting the bed, and was avoiding sweet foods and had increasing thirst. I had even mentioned to him that he must be growing–he was looking so tall and skinny!
One morning, all of his symptoms finally clicked with me, and I took him to the pediatrician with what I suspected was type 1 diabetes. (I owe it to all of the crazy webMD searches I have done… Ha!) To make a long story short, Collin was indeed diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes that day, and after being hospitalized for a couple days and getting more information than we could have hoped for, we were on our own to navigate the ins and outs of a disease we knew very little about.
Collin has been a model patient, and has wildly exceeded our expectations of him. He has handled everything his diagnosis has changed in his life with grace, and we are so proud of him. He takes a great deal of pride in being responsible for much of his own care, and is eager to share information about type 1 diabetes with anyone who cares to learn more.
Funds raised will go to JDRF to help to continue research into new technologies to treat T1D and ultimately a cure. Thank you for your support!
