Although we are home from the hospital, we are still having several appointments at St. Jude in Peoria. Josie’s blood counts are very low. This makes her feel tired & sick (similar to the flu). Today her hemoglobin was at a 5.3 – so low she had to get her 1st blood transfusion. She also had to move forward with her chemo treatments as planned, which included another spinal tap.

This chapter in Josie’s life began on April 8 with a visit to the doctor due to heaviness in her chest, shortness of breath, and a low grade fever. After having a chest x-ray, she was referred to St. Jude in Peoria, IL. This is where it was determined that Josie had a 16 cm cancerous mass in her chest pushing on her lungs and heart. The doctors moved quickly into treatment to shrink the mass. Josie has been very courageous and has already undergone several procedures (unsedated because it is too dangerous) and chemotherapy. The good news is that the mass is responding to the treatment!
On her first day in the hospital, Josie read Hebrews 12:1 in her devotional. It talks about running the race of life with patience and endurance. This is just what she hopes to do with her treatment!
Gifts and purchases of any amount are greatly appreciated to help the Blake family with ongoing medical expenses. And last, but certainly not least, please pray for the Blake family and for all the doctors and nurses who will be caring for her.
