Rescue Horse Needs Help
Hello. I volunteer at a non-profit ranch, and this is King, one of our rescue horses. He’s a 17 year old quarter horse that’s been at the ranch for several years now.
King lives up to his name and tends to be quite difficult to work with due to him thinking he’s always the boss. This has resulted in nobody wanting to sponsor him, and he will be sold to someone out of state in a couple of months unless enough funds are raised to keep him at the ranch.
It takes $350 a month to keep him there, and that money goes to his food, the farrier, and all of his veterinary bills.
I’ve personally been working with him since September of 2018, and while he’s still somewhat unpredictable, all of the time and work I’ve put into him has made things better. He’s a lot more affectionate towards me and easier to work with overall – I found a soft spot in him and that means everything to me. He’s also a lot calmer and patient while working with him, especially when I’m teaching younger kids about horses.
This horse means so much to me and is really the only good thing in my life. I don’t know what I’d do if he ends up being sold. It makes me sad that no one has sponsored him because of his “bossy” personality. He can be such a sweet and loving horse, it just takes time to get passed that barrier.
I’ve been the only one who has been willing to consistently work with him and our bond makes me happier than anything else. He deserves a loving partner after so much time at the ranch and I’d love to keep working with him.
I’ve set the amount so that he would be able to stay at the ranch and be taken care of for the rest of the year.
By donating, you’re massively helping in many ways. He’ll get the proper food he needs and his medical bills will be taken care of. You’ll be directly helping a rescue horse that really needs all the help he can get. I don’t think it’s ideal for him to be sold to someone he doesn’t know due to his personality – I think he’s better off continuing to work with me as I know his quirks and how to handle him.
As a nonprofit, we rely solely on donations and volunteers to keep the horses fed and healthy, but donations are rare so some horses are sold or moved elsewhere.
By donating, you’re helping to keep King at the ranch, which is the best option for him. He deserves to be taken care of and work with someone who really loves him despite his attitude, and I really hope that I can be the one to do that.
Any and all donations are appreciated more than you know. Thank you.
