Start: Apr 9, 2019 - End: May 31, 2019
Each year, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its Man and Woman of the Year fundraising campaign and I am honored to join this year’s efforts. I am running for Woman of the Year in honor of Morgan Labelle, Girl of the year and Simeon Smith, Boy of the Year.
I have always loved being involved in and giving back to my community. There are so many great causes to support, so why The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society? I have had numerous family members stricken with many types of cancer, including my Uncle Bart Mere who lost his battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2010, and have experienced its impact firsthand. This time a year ago my Dad was diagnosed with cancer, and I was amazed at the outpouring of support from family, friends, and neighbors. People brought meals, mowed the lawn, shoveled the walk, sent cards with well wishes and money to help with expenses. It is hard to imagine going through that experience without that sense of community or similar support. These situations are where LLS comes in; they provide education and support to patients and their families and many valuable resources in addition to funding research for patients diagnosed with a blood cancer.
Our campaign will last 10 weeks, kicking off April 4 and ending June 13 with the LLS Gala, where they will announce Man and Woman of the Year. Man and Woman of the Year will be determined by the most votes earned throughout our 10-week campaign: $1 = 1 vote.
