I am a junior nursing student at Research College of Nursing. I was recently selected as 1 of 8 nursing students to accompany faculty to Kalongo Uganda. We will be spending 3 weeks in Kalongo at Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital in service of this socially disadvantaged population. I am fortunate enough to have the availability to volunteer my time for 3-4 weeks in July. I am raising money to help collect medical supplies, clothing, shoes, and to cover some of my international travel expenses. I know extra money is hard to come by for many, but any amount will help. If you are unable to donate, please share! Thank you so much, I am so grateful for all of you!
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital serves Kalongo, plus 6 surrounding districts which do not have access to medical care. 1.9 million people living in this area, do so on less than $1 per day. 55.9% of their women are illiterate. This area was one of the most impacted by the two decades of civil war, which displaced hundreds of thousands. 40,000 children were abducted and forced into slavery, while 100,000+ were mutilated. Hundreds of thousands are still suffering long-term effects of these acts against humanity.
