Ukrainian Adoption Fund

I was getting ready to board my plane in London to fly back to the states. I was reading friends facebook posts just before they called us to board. I pass by a friend’s post with a picture of our future son, Vitalic. I was struck by how much he favored one of our birth children, Joseph if he was older. The story was that he was 15 and would soon age out of the adoption system in Ukraine, but that he needed a home. In Ukraine the statistics are something like this–if you are a 16 year old orphan girl within a year 80% will be sex trafficked; if you are a boy 80% will be dead or in prison. I kept hearing an old hymn from my childhood that said …Rescue the perishing; care for the dying Jesus will ransom them Jesus will save. This rang in my head all the way back.
Through the entire 9 hour flight I was trying to figure out how to tell my husband a few seats away that we needed another son. (We have 10 birth children.). 7 still at home.
So the next morning I began asking the other children how they would feel about it. Each one said the same thing, “Go get him mama!” Bring our brother home. That day was unique because my older kids who do not live at home also came by to visit. They too said the same. Now I had to tell Steven.
So I began the story that night with him. He said well we have to talk to the kids, I told him they were all already on board. He was very uncertain on the whole thing. But the following day my oldest son and he visited by phone and Christian told his dad that he always felt he had a brother he had not met yet! Steven and I felt confirmed that this was that brother. So the adventure begins!
