Unity's College Dreams
Hi! I am raising money to help pay my friend Unity’s last year of school.
Unity and I met almost 4 years ago when I became her mentor through an amazing program called Bolder Options. Since that time, I have continually been blown away by her focus, and her drive to graduate high school, go to college and to make a better life for herself. She has been talking about college as long as I have known her.
When I first met her, she was in 8th grade and working on her application for scholarship and admission to Cretin Durham High School, a private college prep school. This was something that she decided to do all on her own, without any family push or assistance. She simply put her mind to it, and made it happen. She got in and has thrived there. The first 3 years of high school, her grandmother has been paying her tuition there.
Unfortunately, her grandmother is no longer able to afford her tuition. Unity is so dedicated to graduating from Cretin that she works two different jobs after school and on weekends, frequently doing her homework in the breakroom to put towards her tuition. My goal is for her to not have to work full time and be able to focus on her school work for her senior year. And hopefully have some time to enjoy her last couple of months in high school and not worry avbout paying her tuition. Although she will graduate regardless, if her bill is not payed, the school will not release her transcripts. Her remaining bill is currently $3200. Anything that we could raise over this amount would go towards college needs such as a laptop, dorm room needs, etc.
Any help would be appreciated. If you’ve met Unity, you know that she is an amazing kid who has shown impressive resolve through a huge amount of hardship. She has a wonderful sense of humor. She is kind and generous with her family and friends, and I love watching her continue to grow. Her smile can light up a room and, to my delight, she never turns down a chance to hang out with this 40-something year old lady. She has already been accepted to many of the colleges that she has applied to and I would love to see her head off to college without having to worry. She is a truly inspiring kid and any little bit you want to donate would be greatly appreciated.
